Bookrave number whatever.

I finally tore myself away from the computer and went to the Woodlands library today. I put on a pretty lazy outfit: shirt, jeans and backpack. I was feeling very lazy. Besides, it was only Woodlands what. I almost wore shorts but my dad said I couldn't walk around Woodlands looking like I just woke up(which was exactly my situation). Then I met up with Eve who scolded me over the phone, "Meet me at Causeway lah!" and eventually I managed to convince her to meet me at the library. Such a sweet penguin! HAHAHA. :)

We had a nice lunch at pizza hut talking and eating and then we walked around the shops(I love fashionLAB but the clothes are too freaken expensive! I wanted that snazzy white half jacket, it had my size.) talking and spraying on perfume and going "EEWW WTFFFF!" and oggling at those cool-looking huge stuffed dogs they have over at Metro for $70. Then we went to McCafe, attempted some book reading and then we got talking and laughing about our life stories, funny incidents, embarrassing ones etc, and then we talked again about true faeries(the evil kind) and other fae creatures, and debated over vampires and werewolves.

One thing that I hate about Twilight by Meyer, is that the vampires are unrealistically perfect. It's like fanfic, naturally most writers have a perfect character in their heads.

What I think: A vampire is a monster. Yes, they look hot in human form. They are hot, hot, hot beings. But when they become vampires, they HAVE to be monster-ish. They have to look terrfying and not pretty. There's nothing wrong with looking hot, hot, hot in human form but you HAVE to look scary and monster-ish in true about-to-bite form because ultimately, vampires are fantastical monsters. Monsters.

The same goes for the werewolves.

I LOVE werewolves; I think that they are cool shit. In my opinion, cooler than vampires.
Eve disagrees, she loves vampires and their absolute cunningness which is cool I admit.
For me, nothing beats a pack of werewolves howling and chasing after something; I think such a scene is brilliant. Don't know why.

OMG Eve, we are such fantasy geeks. Your influence lah, you chicken neneh! Still you are fun to hang out with, I shoot my mouth off when I'm with you, LOL.

Okay so now, on to the books;

I'm done with at least one book that I've bought at the Bookfair 2008 so finally, and hurrah for me. I still have The Alchemist's Daughter to read, though.

I couldn't put this book down. Tt's so unbearably witty. The funny parts come to you fast like bullets and repeatedly, and there's really vivid characterisation here. I've fallen in love with the character Elizabeth. She is just a brilliant character with a filthy mouth and she's so witty and funny at everything-but she does have something to hide, as it is with all filthy-mouthed people. They just hide it well. Brilliant book, and it's only $8.90 at the bookfair! Excellent choice man. ;)

"Yes, he's an American."
"Outstanding."
"He's a good bloke."
"Not only good but also a 'bloke'? You simply must introduce us."
"He's still at your house now, in fact."
"Then what are we waiting for? He'll think I have the most appalling manners. Here I am indulging myself in hospital, while he has to hang around making himself comfortable in my home with access to all my private things. What must he think of me? Fuck-am I blushing Rob? I can feel myself blushing."
"Zach saved your life Elizabeth. You should be-"
"Be grateful?"
"Well yes. And, anyway, you should show him some respect even without that."
"Why?"
"Because he's damn near as barking fucking mad as you are."

I've returned all my library books today and I've gotten 6 new ones so I'm happy like shit. The TV's broken lah.

Nightwatch by Sergei Lukyanenko was BRILLIANT and I'm borrowing the sequel DAY WATCH from Eve tomorrow and have borrowed TWILIGHT WATCH from the library.

I also felt the need to read at least 1 Man Booker prized book before I die, so I borrowed the massive illustrated version of THE LIFE OF PI by Yann Martel. So far, it's okay. But I've read 3 pages of the character arguing whether animals in the wild are truly happy when they are free or not. Lucky for him, it's an interesting argument.

Also borrowed; THE MAGIC TOYSHOP by Angela Carter, whose book I admittedly picked mainly because of the gorgeous cover.

Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman

Good Omens by Neil Gaiman

I think I might have become a Neil Gaiman convert. We'll see.

FROM THE NOTEBOOKS OF DR.BRAIN by Minister Faust
Eve said that this was "fucking funny" so this looks like a nonsensical comedic book to be enjoyed without a brain. :D A bit like crackfic? I don't know yet.

Recommended way of choosing books;

3 MUST HAVES

1) Presentable/OK/Not bad/Not too cheesy cover
-Mostly covers can be pretty but the book may be pretty rotten. But covers are visually attractive, so that definitely helps. I know about the famous old saying but I don't give a shit. ;) Covers catches one's attention so if there's an eye-catching cover, I might give the book a shot, PROVIDED if it has the following 2 things on my list(see below). If the author is a reputable one, covers can be overlooked. It really depends.

2) Blurb
I need a blurb to know what the book is about! Because covers can be misleading. Unless I already know what it is about.

3) Good reviews from reputable sources
So I'm guaranteed of a good time. I've had too much experiences of reading horrible horrible books that this has become a must.

Optional;
4) A second opinion
Eve and I have almost similar tastes in books so I ask her for her opinion sometimes.

End of bookrave, excuse my nerdish qualities.

Now back to Okada.J, what an amazing discovery. *nod nod*
